AgriTech is a government initiative that supports innovative proposals along the entire value chain. Examples include smart irrigation systems to maximize crop growth, smart fertilizer application systems, high-tech greenhouses, hydroponic systems, farm robotics to reduce labour use, smart logistics technologies such as food freshness sensors and shelf life enhancement technology for merchandise in transit, and development of marketing systems through apps, websites, and other digital platforms to connect producers and consumers.

This flyer presents the successful innovation in response to the movement restrictions imposed in response to COVID-19, which have considerably restricted sales and purchase of vegetables and merchandise at the marketplace. A farmer decided to offer a new service to buyers by selling a basket of different types of food at a fixed price and delivering them direct to households.

    As part of the SIDS Solutions Forum, 30-31 August 2021, FAO collected innovations and creative digital technologies that respond to local problems and challenges. More than half of Fijians suffer from poor nutritional status and diet-related health problems. This flyer presents a mobile app to help Fijians take ownership of their own health status. The app works by tracking dietary intake on a daily basis through a platform called “my meals” that creates specific recipes culturally familiar to the user.
