Synopsis (short abstract) This is one of a set of posters, the communication materials for farmers in "Soil Doctors Global Programme". the program is a farmer-to-farmer training programme and the poster will be used for farmers by farmers to teach and learn soil function and problems related to soils. This poster explains the causes and the negative effects of soil compaction on farm. It is in line with the implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for Sustainable Soil Management and to maintain healthy soils and food safety in accordance with the Sustainable Development Goals and the FAO’s Strategic Objectives. It contributes to the efforts of ending hunger, malnutrition, climate change adaptation, land degradation and overall sustainable development. It also contributes to the strategic framework of FAO especially SP 1, 2.

World Soil Day is held annually on 5th December, this event focuses attention on the importance of healthy soils and advocating for the sustainable management of soil resources. FAO has supported the formal establishment of WSD as a global awareness-raising platform. Every year, the themes cover different aspects of soil and biodiversity that require attention. This year’s theme, ‘Keep soil alive, Protect soil biodiversity’ aims to establish awareness on soil biodiversity, the above ground and below ground organisms working to keep the soil healthy.
