Synopsis (short abstract) The National Food Policy (NFP) provides strategic guidance for achieving food and nutrition security. The NFP Plan of Action (PoA) translates this into 26 Areas of Intervention (AoI) for the period 2008 to 2015. The Bangladesh Country Investment Plan: A Road Map towards Investment in Agriculture, Food Security and Nutrition (CIP) identifies 12 investment programmes to ensure implementation of the PoA. Implementation mechanisms and responsibilities across Government ministries are specified in th e NFP PoA Section I.4 and Part II, respectively.

    In June 2012, the Federal Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation and for Livestock, Fisheries and Rangelands, on behalf of the Government of Sudan and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Representative in Sudan, signed the “Country Programming Framework (CPF) for the Republic of Sudan (2012- 2016)”. The CPF is a “roadmap” for FAO-Sudan to support the Federal Ministries of Agriculture and Irrigation (MoAI) of Livestock, Fisheries and Rangelands (MoLFR) and of Enviro nment, Forestry and Physical Development (MoEFPD), and the Government of Sudan at large, in the improvement of food security, reduction of rural poverty, sustainable management of natural resources and overall development of the country’s agriculture sector.

    This document is a collection of briefs on countries in which food security has been affected by conflict and other crises. Here is an overview of some key numbers: people in conflict affected states are up to three times more likely to be undernourished than those who are living in more stable developing countries. The most recent projections suggest that approximately half of the global poor now live in states characterized by conflict and violence. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the World Food Programme (WFP) have a strong interest, and a potentially important role to play, in supporting transitions towards peace.
