This project was funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the Government of the Gambia. The project was implemented in the Gambia from December 2016 to October 2023 at the time of the evaluation; it was subsequently extended again after the evaluation. -

No results found.This project supports communities in wetland areas of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in efforts to reduce pressure on wetlands area, improve management and stewardship and diversify livelihoods. The project outcomes were consistent with national policies and plans, and it was successful in a range of wetland conservation efforts. Evidence-based planning and mainstreaming of climate change adaptation, disaster risk management and wetland conservation has been conducted in regular planning exercises, training of government staff and participating communities. RAMSAR site steering committees have been established. A major threat continues to be encroachment of wetlands for rice cultivation and use of chemical fertilizer and pesticides in rice fields. -

The project “Strengthening the adaptive capacity to climate change in the fisheries and aquaculture sector of Chile”, with support from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), sought to reduce the vulnerability and increase the adaptive capacity to climate change in the fisheries and aquaculture sector of Chile. Implemented in four remote coves, the project was geared towards coastal communities through high quality in-person participatory capacity building sessions, raising awareness about topics such as productive diversification, adaptation to climate change, aquaculture and tourism. Despite there being several changes in civil servants and government authorities, as well as certain delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic and civil unrest in the country, the project managed to progress towards the formulated objective, was relevant to the actual situation and suited to the needs of the beneficiaries. Lessons learned were also generated to improve the formulation and management of this type of project in the future. Notably, the evaluation found that climate change adaptation workshops have a high potential for replicability across different geographic settings in the region.

No results found.This report presents the results of the final evaluation of the project “Technical Assistance to Support the Establishment of a National Animal Identification, Registration and Traceability System (NAITS) in Georgia” implemented from 1 December 2016 to 31 December 2021. The evaluation was conducted from September to December 2021 and aimed to guide future actions and serve as an input to improve the implementation of the follow-up project “Enhancing Food Safety and the Competitiveness of the Livestock Sector through the Improvement of the National Animal Identification, Registration and Traceability System (NAITS-II).” This evaluation presents strategic recommendations and lessons to maximize the institutionalization and appropriation of the project’s results by stakeholders and disseminate information to authorities that could benefit from it. -

No results found.The evaluation highlights the project's strong alignment with national priorities and FAO objectives, effectively addressing the needs of youth organizations and rural youth. It successfully enhanced the capacity of youth in agrifood systems, including agricultural production, digital and financial literacy, and marketing. While progress was made in developing agricultural value chains, further improvement is needed by adopting a strategic market systems approach. The ICA project fostered multistakeholder engagement, strengthening sustainability through national collaboration. However, challenges remain, particularly in access to finance for young agripreneurs and the need for tailored interventions to support diverse youth needs. The evaluation recommends: i) Adopting a strategic market systems approach for sustained systemic change; ii) Continuing a holistic, multi-stakeholder approach to provide comprehensive support to youth; iii) Implementing a two-stage targeting strategy, starting with youth structures and then focusing on individuals, ensuring inclusion of vulnerable groups; iv) Developing an exit strategy that ensures long-term sustainability in countries not continuing in future project phases; v) Establishing a comprehensive results framework and monitoring system for all ICA country projects. -

No results found.This evaluation identifies lessons learned and good practices from FAO’s implementation of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA-FAO), an eight-year programme to strengthen health systems in 20 countries across Africa and Asia. Conducted through ten country case studies and validated in regional workshops, the evaluation finds that GHSA-FAO made important contributions to workforce development, laboratory and surveillance systems, and regional coordination. It also highlights persistent gaps at sub-national levels and the need for stronger data systems, sustained financing, and targeted advocacy to enhance the long-term impact and sustainability of global health security efforts.
