    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in August 2018: -Under the framework of the China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV), the 6th FETPV-E was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province from 2-3 August 2018. Guided by the theme of “Belt and Road (B&R) and animal disease prevention and control”, the objectives of the workshop were to a) enhance senior veterinary administrative officials’ understanding on the application of veterinary epidemiology in disease control strategy planning and implementation, by introducing relevant approaches with practical examples; b) focus on B&R and effective utilizing of epidemiology network and supporting regional animal disease prevention and control; and c) review the progress of CFETPV in the past eight years and discuss the further adjustment to improve the upcoming cohort. -The 15th China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV) Steering Committee Meeting was held in Xi’an, Shaanxi Province on 2 August 2018. Deputy Director General, Dr Chen Guanghua and Division Consultant, Dr Zhao Xiaodan from the Veterinary Bureau (VB) of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA), FAO China ECTAD office, and China Animal Health and Epidemiology Centre (CAHEC) participated in the meeting. -The Workshop on Veterinary Epidemiology Application for University Academics and CFETPV Chinese Trainers was held in Beijing from 21-24 August 2018. The Workshop aimed to help participants to address the challenges of epidemiological studies through discussions of realworld cases, enabling participants to reinforce the ability to apply relevant epidemiological methods to solve real-world problems; master the basic methods of data analysis, improve data analysis capabilities, and effectively analyse epidemiological data obtained in actual work; understand the relevant aspects of animal health economics and the basis of the epidemiological model; and promote cooperation and exchanges between the university academic network and the FETPV network.

    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in November 2018: The FAO China Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Office organized the Chinese trainers of China Field Epidemiology Training Program for Veterinarians (CFETPV) to participate in the 15th International Symposium of Veterinary Epidemiology and Economics (ISVEE 15) in Chiang Mai, Thailand from 12-16 November 2018. ISVEE 15 was a global forum for interdisciplinary collaboration and communication among graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, practitioners, junior and senior researchers, as well as policymakers, health, veterinary public health, social science, and animal health economic professionals, for learning and sharing with a vision of building a better life tomorrow for veterinary epidemiology at the local, regional, and international levels. FAO Chief Veterinary Officer (CVO), Dr Juan Lubroth was invited to visit the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China on 16 November 2018. During his visit, Dr Lubroth met with Mr Yu Kangzhen, Vice Minister of MARA, Mr Zhang Zhongqiu, Chief Veterinary Officer of China, Mr Feng Zhongwu, Deputy Director-General, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Bureau, MARA and other senior officers of MARA. The 4th Multilateral Cross-Border Meeting in the Upper Mekong Sub-region to Strengthen Collaboration of Transboundary Animal Disease Control among China, Lao PDR, Myanmar and Viet Nam was held in Beijing, China from 22-24 November 2018. The meeting was co-organized by FAO China Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) of China.

    FAO China ECTAD Highlights in March 2019:1)The first module of the fifth cohort of China Field Epidemiology Training Programme for Veterinarians (CFETPV) was held in Qingdao, Shandong Province from 4-29 March 2019. 20 trainees (8 female, 12 male) from national (4), provincial (9) and municipal (7) levels animal health agencies were selected from the Introductory Course to complete the two-year CFETPV, which is consisted of five different modules and relevant assignments;2)The 2019 Annual Regional Meeting for Emergency Center for Transboundary Animal Diseases (ECTAD) Regional Programme for Asia and the Pacific (AREM) was held in Phuket, Thailand from 6-8 March 2019. Mr Liu Lushi, Ms Ma Yuanyuan and Ms Yu Qi from FAO China ECTAD participated in the meeting;3)The global elimination of dog transmitted human rabies was set for 2030 “ZERO BY 30”. In order to review the global framework for the elimination of dog-mediated human rabies, evaluate the current rabies status in China, especially in the provinces with high rabies burden, generate an overall Stepwise Approach to Rabies Elimination (SARE) score at provincial and national levels, develop plans towards effective and sustainable dog rabies elimination, identify short/long term priority activities, and establish measure strategies for monitoring progress internally and with other rabies control partners, a SARE Workshop in China was jointly organized by Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (China CDC), China Animal Disease Control Center (CADC) and U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) in Beijing from 25-28 March 2019.
