Synopsis (short abstract) Esta publicación es un esfuerzo conjunto del Ministerio de Energía del Gobierno de Chile, La Organización de la Naciones Unidas para la Alimentación y Agricultura, y el Programa de las naciones Unidad para el desarrollo, con el fin de contribuir al uso y fomento de las energías renovables no convencionales. El biogás, como fuente de energía renovable, ha despertado un gran interés en los últimos años, siendo tal vez una de las tecnologías de más fácil implementación, sobre todo en sectores rural es. Su potencial desarrollo, no solo considerando la producción de biogás, sino que como ayuda a la obtención de biofertilizante y tratamiento de problemas sanitarios en algunos casos, hacen que replicabilidad y difusión en los sectores con abundancia de materia orgánica de desecho sea atractivo. Esperamos que esta publicación contribuya al desarrollo e implementación de proyectos con esta tecnología, y que esto se traduzca en un mejoramiento de la calidad de vida de las personas y haga nuestro entorno más sustentable.

    This user manual assists in the utilization of BEFSRA biogas industrial tool. The manual provides useful definitions related to biogas digestor options, its operation and key parameters affecting production performance. After completing this manual and operate the tool, users will be able to perform the techno-economic analysis of biogas production and different potential uses for electricity generation, Cogeneration of heat and power (CHP), direct use for heating and cooking or upgrade to natur al gas.     Biogas has proved to be a viable technology in the physical and socio-economic conditions of Nepal. The hydropower generating potential of Nepal is calculated as one of the highest in the world but only about 12 percent of the population is connected to the national electricity grid. The percapita energy consumption is one of the lowest in the world and more than 90 percent of the energy use is in the domestic sector, mainly for cooking.
