Synopsis (short abstract) This publication presents the proceedings of the Global Symposium on Farmers' Rights ("the Symposium"), organized by the Secretariat of the International Treaty on Plant Genetic Resources for Food and Agriculture and hosted by the Government of India. The Symposium was held from 12 to 15 September 2023, at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research Convention Center in New Delhi. It brought together around 700 participants from over 50 countries, including policymakers, farmers, farmer organizations, academia, civil societies, and government officials. Participants shared experiences, innovative approaches, and effective policies, promoting the exchange of best practices. The proceedings provide a record of the main highlights of the key discussions from the five sessions on options for realizing farmers’ rights as set out in Article 9 of the International Treaty, legal and other measures supporting the realization of farmers’ rights, international processes and other issues of relevance to farmers’ rights, the state of implementation of Article 9 of the International Treaty, and future work on farmers’ rights.
