No results found.Increasing investment in agriculture and food systems is critical to achieving the first two Sustainable Development Goals, the eradication of hunger and poverty. However, not only more, also better investments are required, which sustainably benefit livelihoods, the environment and communities. Against this background, a series of capacity assessments conducted by FAO have highlighted the need for targeted activities to strengthen the commitment and capacities of key stakeholders to improve the enabling environment (institutional, legal, policy and incentives frameworks) for responsible investment in agriculture and food systems. This project, which is part of the Umbrella Programme: “Supporting Responsible Investments in Agriculture and Food Systems” (PGM/MUL/2017-2021/RAI), assists in tackling these issues by advocating for, and supporting the application of the Committee on World Food Security Principles for Responsible Investment in Agriculture and Food Systems (CFS-RAI). The CFS-RAI is the first global agreement that defines how to enhance and carry out responsible investments, in order to contribute to sustainable development, and bring benefits to all actors involved, including communities, farmers, investors and the broader environment. -

No results found.Since 2019, Uganda’s Karamoja subregion has suffered from progressive food insecurity as a result of below-average crop and livestock production due to erratic weather conditions, plant pests and animal diseases, and price shocks. In October 2022, information and surveillance reports indicated a suspected outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), one of the most threatening diseases for livestock in Uganda due to its high socio-economic impact, the complexity in its control and its rapid spread. Thanks to the German Federal Foreign Office’s contribution to the SFERA – Anticipatory Action window, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will provide vaccination and prophylactic treatment to livestock belonging to over 27 200 pastoral households in Karamoja. This will protect their livelihoods as they depend on livestock as a critical source of income and to meet their nutritional needs, reducing poverty and building resilience against future shocks. -

Statistical Capacity Assessment for the FAO-relevant SDG Indicators 2018/19
2019The Office of the Chief Statistician (OCS) conducted the Statistical Capacity Assessment for the FAO-relevant SDG indicators in early 2019 to provide insights about member countries' national statistical systems in regard to their capacity to monitor and report the 21 SDG indicators under FAO custodianship. The survey collected information on the national coordination mechanisms for the SDG reporting, current data availability and plans for filling data gaps, and needs for technical assistance. The respondents were mainly the National Coordinators for SDG Monitoring or the SDG focal points nominated by the Directors General of National Statistics Offices. The results will assist FAO-HQ and decentralized offices in designing targeted interventions and mobilizing resources to support countries in collecting, analyzing and using the SDG indicators in decision-making.
