DocumentDrought resistant aquaculture fish species in Lao PDR 2017
Also available in:
No results found. This DRR good practice technology consists in the introduction of drought-resistant fish species such as common carp for aquaculture production in dry areas of Lao PDR. These fish species grow faster than usually raised species such as Mrigal (Cirrhinus mirigala) and tilapia. Furthermore, they can survive in shallow water and therefore they reduce aquaculture production losses in the case of dry spells, when the water level in ponds is low. -
DocumentEnhancing drought resistance through Guinea grass mulching, Jamaica 2008
Also available in:
No results found.Guinea grass mulching is one of the local drought-mitigation strategies adopted in the low-rainfall areas of Jamaica. After the land preparation dried guinea grass is applied in a matted form over the area to be cultivated. This practice helps crop to survive during the dry season without having to recur to irrigation. Moreover, this technique enhances soil moisture for germinating seeds and allows for a better crop establishment and nutrient uptake. -
DocumentFarm yard manure and water hyacinth compost applications to enhance organic matter and water holding capacity of soils in drought prone areas of Bangladesh 2012
Also available in:
No results found. The organic matter content of the soil is an indication of soil fertility. Low organic matter content can worsen the water-holding capacity of the soil which is crucial during drought periods. Several methods can be used to enrich soil and increase its fertility, for example through the use of farm yard manure and water hyacinth composts. This practice describes how to prepare and preserve farm yard manure from wastes on the farm and also explains water hyacinth compost preparation, with a practice example on how to apply it on a mango tree.
