Synopsis (short abstract) The National Gender Profile of Agricultural and Rural Livelihoods is part of the project GCP/SEC/008/TUR, which contributes to the Regional Initiative 1 for the REU Region and to the SO3 by improving knowledge for evidence-based policies. The purpose of the National Gender Profile of Agricultural and Rural Livelihoods - Turkey is to contribute to the production of knowledge for better informed, targeted and gender sensitive actions in agriculture and rural development. It is meant to inform F AO professionals, other UN agencies, staff from the government of Kyrgyzstan, NGOs and professionals who work in agriculture and rural development in Turkey. It is also meant to be an awareness-raising tool for the wider public. This national profile points out some of the major gender inequalities that need to be considered by policy makers and project managers according to available data, and identifies further research needs. Within the project, national gender profiles of agricultural and r ural livelihoods have been produced for Turkey, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic.

The objective of the assessment is to analyse the agricultural and rural sector of Botswana from a gender perspective at the macro (policy), meso (institutional) and micro (community and household) levels in order to identify gender inequalities in access to critical productive resources, assets, services and opportunities. In particular, the assessment identifies needs and constraints of both women and men in selected FAO areas of competence as well as priorities and gaps. Also, it provides recommendations and guidance to promote gender sensitivity of future programming and projects

The Country Gender Assessment (CGA) for Tajikistan offers a comprehensive analysis of gender equality in agriculture and rural development. It identifies key gender disparities, examines their root causes and impacts, and proposes actionable recommendations for gender-responsive policies. Despite being the main agricultural workforce and playing a critical role in food security, women’s contributions remain undervalued, under-recognized, and largely unpaid. With increasing male outmigration from rural areas, women’s roles on farms are expanding, underscoring the urgent need to invest in their empowerment to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and drive sustainable rural development.

The first Country Gender Assessment for Georgia was initiated in 2018, providing an overview of gender dynamics in agriculture and rural development. This comprehensive assessment reviews the progress made since 2018, highlighting critical gaps, new and persistent challenges and progress achieved. Adopting an agrifood systems approach, it examines the impacts of climate change and other shocks and crises on gender equality in Georgia's agrifood systems. The findings indicate notable advancements in the collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated data. However, critical sectoral gaps persist, particularly in addressing the needs of rural and young women. The assessment underscores opportunities for enhancing women’s empowerment in agriculture and rural development by drawing on good practices based on the experiences of FAO Representation in Georgia. The publication concludes with actionable recommendations for FAO and its partners.
