ProjectStrengthening Capacity for Climate Action in Mongolia - GCP/MON/016/CBT 2023
Also available in:
No results found. As a signatory to the Paris Agreement, Mongolia has committed to certain protocols for monitoring, reporting and verification (MRV) regarding progress toward its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) targets. However, gaps remain in the MRV systems for the agriculture, forestry and other land uses (AFOLU) sector. In order to fulfil Mongolia’s Enhanced Transparency Framework (ETF) commitments and improve the quality of climate related decision making at all levels, these gaps should be addressed, including inadequate institutional arrangements and technological and technical capacities for mitigation related MRV and adaptation related monitoring and reporting. As such, this project sought to conduction activities that enhance the overall quality of information related to those issues by aligning MRV practices with global standards. It was designed to ensure that all stakeholders access and benefit from the resulting MRV improvements, and focused on addressing coordination and measurement gaps that are prerequisites for reporting. -
ProjectHelping Countries to Plan and Implement Climate Action in Agriculture through Improved Capacity and Knowledge - GCP/GLO/890/GER 2022
Also available in:
No results found. The Paris Agreement constitutes a landmark achievement in the international response to climate change. Developed and developing countries alike committed in 2015 to doing their part in the transition to a low-emissions and climate-resilient future, as expressed in countries’ Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). Achieving the long-term climate goals of the Agreement, however, rests upon the enhanced institutional and technical capacity of developing countries to design, implement and track increasingly ambitious mitigation and adaption actions in the agriculture sectors. In the first round of NDCs, countries clearly referred to the need for enhanced capacities to engage stakeholders and facilitate inclusive planning and implementation processes, formulate new strategies, policies and laws, revise existing national policies and plans (including by mainstreaming climate change considerations), monitor and evaluate interventions and track GHG emissions and sinks, as well as adaptation needs and progress. Providing opportunities for exchange among decision-makers, technical experts and implementers can thereby contribute to laying the foundations for successful and ambitious interventions. -
ProjectStrengthening Countries' Capacities to Access to the Green Climate Fund, in Particular REDD+ SAP and RBPs Windows - TCP/INT/3801 2024
Also available in:
No results found. For over a decade, developing countries have been urged to engage in forest sector activities aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and managing forest carbon stocks sustainably. These activities, known as Reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation in developing countries (REDD+), are vital for global climate change efforts, as confirmed by the Paris Agreement. The Green Climate Fund (GCF) supports REDD+ initiatives to help countries combat climate change and promote prosperity. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), as a certified accredited entity to the GCF, assists government counterparts in Asia-Pacific, Africa, and Latin America in accessing GCF resources and provides technical support in proposal formulation.
