Agriculture is considered one of the key drivers of the Malagasy economy, accounting for 26.4 percent of the country’s GDP and employing over 75 percent of the workforce. Despite this, Madagascar’s agricultural production cannot meet the food needs of its population, a large proportion of whom are severely affected by food insecurity. In addition, Madagascar’s potential in terms of availability of agricultural land and natural pastures, water resources, insularity, biodiversity and a young workforce in rural areas remains largely under-exploited.Given China’s expertise in the above areas, the Malagasy Government applied to benefit from the South–South Cooperation (SSC) programme. -

No results found.This report is one of the outputs of the Technical Cooperation Programme project (TCP/SAP/3705) aimed at strengthening the capacity of Pacific Island Countries to monitor SDG Target 2.1. The process started in March 2019 with the analysis of the food data collected in the 2018 Household Income and Expenditure survey (HIES) in collaboration with Samoa Bureau of Statistics. The report presents the main results derived from the analysis of the food data and the Food Insecurity Experience Scale data collected in the 2018 HIES to inform current patterns on food security and nutrition in Samoa. Whenever possible indicators are given at national level and for sub-groups of population. -

No results found.The first five year National Programme for Food Security (NPFS) was launched in Nigeria in November 2001, in partnership with FAO. The objective of the NPFS is to foster the development of smallholder agriculture and income generation in rural areas, improve national food security, and reduce poverty on an economically and environmentally sustainable basis. In order to consolidate and expand on the results achieved during the first phase of the NPFS programme , the current project was launched. Its objectives were to strengthen the technical and organizational capacities of NPFS implementing agencies to deliver country wide comprehensive services, and to enhance decision making and productive capacities of beneficiary farmers, in order to support food insecure and poor households.
