According to FAO, total production of aquatic animals in 2022 reached approximately 185 million tonnes, of which 89 percent was used for direct human consumption, averaging 20.7 kg per person. China alone accounts for roughly 36 percent of global aquatic animal output and consumes approximately 45 percent of worldwide supply, amounting to nearly 65 million tonnes annually. As the world’s largest producer, consumer, and importer of aquatic products, China’s dietary patterns and policy shifts are reshaping global aquatic products trade and nutrition systems. -
