Synopsis (short abstract) Particularly exposed to climate-related risks, Chad is one of the world’s most vulnerable countries. Structural development challenges, weak local capacities, high poverty rates and successive shocks exacerbate the population’s vulnerabilities. In addition, the conflict in the Lake Chad Basin and in neighbouring countries, together with the economic difficulties linked to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) are increasing humanitarian needs in the country. With an already fragile context exacerbated by the effects of the pandemic, providing emergency agricultural and pastoral support remains essential to strengthen the resilience of the most vulnerable populations.

    The situation in Colombia continues to be characterized by armed group activity as well as natural disasters, leading to increased humanitarian needs. In addition, Colombia still hosts the largest number of Venezuelan refugees and migrants, whose already dire living conditions have further been aggravated by the effects of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), and related urgent and essential restrictive measures. Providing both vulnerable host communities, and refugee and migrant populations, especially in rural areas, with agricultural support is crucial to allow them to quickly cover their food needs and increase their self-reliance.

    Continued conflict, the blockade of the oil sector for most of 2020, and the coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic have further debilitated the already weak economic situation in Libya. FAO is requesting USD 2.65 million to assist 12 300 people to support household food security, protect their livelihoods, and restore agricultural productivity, which is crucial to longer-term food security and sustainability, and building communal and national resilience against future shocks.

    The humanitarian crisis in Northern Mozambique has rapidly escalated, leaving an estimated 1.3 million people in need of urgent humanitarian assistance and protection in 2021. The main shocks leading to the deteriorating humanitarian and food security situation are armed conflict, natural hazards and the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic on economic activity in the region. These shocks have disrupted the agricultural livelihoods of vulnerable people in Cabo Delgado, Nampula and Niassa and heightened food insecurity. Providing timely support along the seasonal calendar will help maximize gains and enhance production, benefiting communities most at need.
