No results found.El presente documento integra el análisis de cuatro Planes de Gestión Pesqueros con Enfoque Ecosistémico diseñados para pesquerías de arrastre en Colombia, Costa Rica, México y Suriname, respectivamente. Tales síntesis, son una compilación de la información más relevante de cada plan: Objetivos, Marco legislativo que posibilita la implementación de estos instrumentos, Diagnóstico de necesidades, y Líneas de acción. Asimismo, reflejan la realidad de cada pesquería en términos de la información existente, la metodología empleada en la construcción del plan, los retos a superar y la estrategia nacional para alcanzar la sostenibilidad de este tipo de pesquerías. El objetivo de este documento es ofrecer al lector un compendio sintético de las experiencias generadas en varios países de América Latina y el Caribe en el diseño y/o implementación de Planes de Gestión para pesquerías de arrastre con un Enfoque Ecosistémico. -

No results found.El Proyecto GCP/RLA/133/EC “Información y Análisis para el Manejo Forestal Sustentable: Integrando Esfuerzos Nacionales e Internacionales en 13 Países Tropicales”, está siendo ejecutado por la FAO en colaboración con los gobiernos miembros y con el apoyo financiero de la Comisión Europea. Los objetivos del proyecto y los resultados esperados fueron presentados en la anterior reunión de la Comisión, que se llevó a cabo en Santa Fe de Bogotá, Colombia. Durante los últimos dos años, el Pr oyecto ha completado su primera fase y ha desarrollado un análisis del estado actual y de las recomendaciones de información forestal relacionada con las siguientes áreas temáticas: recursos forestales, antecedentes socioeconómicos, madera para energía, productos forestales no madereros (PFNM), productos de la madera, árboles fuera del bosque (AFB), cambio en el uso de la tierra, manejo y política forestal e instituciones. Las actividades se llevaron a cabo en 17 países: 13 financiados a través del proyecto y cuatro a través de fondos del programa regular de la FAO.

No results found.Organic agriculture is increasingly under the spotlight for being a promising approach to address the challenges raised by the increasing demographics and urbanization as well as climate change. In the eyes of consumers, this often translates into healthier, safer, tastier and more environmentally friendly foods. But the “organic” certification actually indicates products that are produced in accordance with certain standards throughout the production, handling, processing and marketing stages, and which aim at a different set of benefits: better incomes for small-scale farmers and increased food security, environmental benefits such as improved soil and water quality and biodiversity preservation, and improved animal welfare. Therefore, while organic agriculture may relate to a set of different improved practices, the term organic in and of itself is not a guarantee of food safety. Finally, organic agriculture can be considered as part of the broader approach of agroecology, where ecological concepts and principles are applied in order to optimize interactions between plants, animals, humans and the environment, and consideration is given to social aspects that need to be considered for a sustainable and fair food system. -

Despite almost a century of research and extension efforts, soil erosion by water, wind and tillage continues to be the greatest threat to soil health and soil ecosystem services in many regions of the world. Our understanding of the physical processes of erosion and the controls on those processes has been firmly established. Nevertheless, some elements remain controversial. It is often these controversial questions that hamper efforts to implement sound erosion control measures in many areas of the world.
