    Une des finalités des Nations Unies est « la promotion et l’encouragement du respect des droits de l’homme et des libertés fondamentales pour tous sans distinction de race, de sexe, de langue ou de religion » (Charte des Nations Unies). Les conséquences de la guerre et des catastrophes naturelles mettent sérieusement en péril la survie des êtres humains et le maintien des moyens de subsistance durables. Le système d’intervention humanitaire international vise non seulement à apporter d es solutions immédiates et adéquates à la survie, mais également à développer des cadres d’analyse et de mesures adaptés à la situation. Afin d’accroître l’efficacité des programmes d’intervention, il est nécessaire de réaliser l’importance donnée à la compréhension du contexte particulier de chacune des ces situations de crise, ses causes et ses conséquences sur les communautés touchées.

    This report illustrates the food loss assessment studies undertaken along the maize, sunflower and beans supply chains in Uganda in 2015-16 and 2016-17. They aimed to identify the critical loss points in the selected supply chains, the key stages at which food losses occur, why they occur, the extent and impact of food losses and the economic, social and environmental implications of the food losses. Furthermore, these studies also evaluated the feasibility of potential interventions to reduce food losses and waste.

    The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge.
