    This poster includes a selection of important deep-sea coral taxa known to occur in the Mediterranean Sea. Each taxon is described using on-deck, laboratory or underwater photos, and information on their morphology, characteristics, texture, important identification characters, colour, size and depth of occurrence are also provided. A section on similar looking invertebrates is also included. The objective of this poster is to assist fishers and fishery observers in the identification of these poorly known species at sea. It is also aimed at generating awareness and understanding of these deep-sea vunerable organisms.

    SponGES policy brief - The ecological value of deep-sea sponges 2021

    This SponGES policy brief provides a list of ecosystem features of deep-sea sponges covering five different domains: distribution, biodiversity, genetic diversity, nutrient and element fluxes, and response to threats and impacts. It also presents the results of a questionnaire that was administered to sponge experts within the SponGES project, to gain further knowledge and understanding on the overall ecological value of deep-sea sponges and possible consequences of their damage/destruction.
