    تم نشر الطبعة الأولى من هذا الكتاب عام 1995 من طرف منظمة الأغذية والزراعة والمركز الدولي للبحوث الزراعية في المناطق الجافة. خلال 25 عاما الماضية تم تحصيل المزيد من المعرفة حول الصبار وتحتوي النسخة المنقحة 2017 على كل تلك المعلومات وقد تمت ترجمتها الآن الى العربية. تكتسب محاصيل الصبار اهتماما متزايدا و خاصة (Opuntia ficus− indica) بسبب خصائصه الفريدة للبقاء حيا في ظروف قاسية ومقاومته للجفاف، ودرجات الحرارة المرتفعة والتربة السيئة. نبات الصبار قادر على النمو على الأرض التي لا يمكن لمحاصيل أخرى النمو عليها. يمكن استخدامه لاستعادة الأراضي المتدهورة في بلدان عديدة مثل اثيوبيا. فهو المحصول الوحيد الذي يمكن الاعتماد عليه حين تفشل كل المحاصيل الأخرى. ينشأ الصبار بالمكسيك التي لا تزال أكبر دولة منتجة و مستهلكة لكن بلدان أخرى كالمغرب والجزائر وتونس تزيد من انتاج الصبار واستخدامه.

    The FAOSTAT emissions database is composed of several data domains covering the categories of the IPCC Agriculture, Forestry and Other Land Use (AFOLU) sector of the national GHG inventory. Energy use in agriculture is additionally included as relevant to emissions from agriculture as an economic production sector under the ISIC A statistical classification, though recognizing that, in terms of IPCC, they are instead part of the Energy sector of the national GHG inventory. FAO emissions estimates are available over the period 1961–2018 for agriculture production processes from crop and livestock activities. Land use emissions and removals are generally available only for the period 1990–2019. This analytical brief focuses on overall trends over the period 2000–2018.
