No results found.FAO, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture in Jordan, and in partnership with IFAD and WFP, launched the project entitled “Enhancing resilient livelihoods and food security of host communities and Syrian refugees in Jordan and Lebanon through the promotion of sustainable agricultural development”. This project is funded by the European Union, through the EU Regional Trust Fund in Response to the Syrian crisis, the EU Madad Fund. The project addresses the reduced livelihood and food security levels in Jordan resulting from the crisis in Syria. It offers to tackle its negative impact on both refugees from Syria and host communities through support to the agriculture sector. This will be done by improving the agricultural productivity and farmers’ incomes, in addition to creating job opportunities for both host communities and displaced Syrians. The project will also promote social protection mechanisms for the benefit of the host farming community. The project also aims at creating adequate agriculture production support systems for vulnerable smallholders that support good agriculture practices and timely response to shocks and rehabilitate the capacity of the agriculture extension systems to be able to respond to the increasing demand for support due to the impact of the Syrian crisis. In addition, the project will support vulnerable smallholders and small family-based agri-food enterprises to increase the productivity and financial feasibility. No results found.This report presents findings from a study of the local-economy impacts of one of Lesotho’s largest social programmes, the Child Grants Programme (CGP), and a rural development intervention, the Sustainable Poverty Reduction through Income, Nutrition and Access to Government Services (SPRINGS) programme. The CGP provides cash transfers to eligible poor households, while SPRINGS was a multi-faceted productive intervention targeting areas reached by the CGP, that provided support in various forms. The study is part of a larger project - a partnership between FAO, IFAD and the Universidad de los Andes (UNIANDES) and its Centro de Estudios en Desarrollo Económico (CEDE) - that seeks to identify factors that lead to better articulation between social protection interventions and rural productive inclusion strategies. -

No results found.This report assesses the impacts of the COVID-19 on the agrifood sector and rural areas in Türkiye. Taking a panoramic picture of the agrifood sector in the country during the COVID-19 period, the study portrays how the pandemic impact on agrifood chains, smallholders and rural economies in Türkiye. The report titled “COVID-19 Rapid Impact Assessment on Agri-Food Sector and Rural Areas in Türkiye” is an outcome of a joint study by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry of Türkiye. Besides assessments on how the pandemic has affected agrifood sector, the report presents policy recommendations for sector preparedness and response, and agricultural and rural resilience. Moreover, the report sheds light on the connection between its suggestions and the Sustainable Development Goals. Authors of this study aims to contribute to the COVID-19 Socio-Economic Impact and Response Task Team (SEIRTT) in United Nations Türkiye, co-led by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Resident Coordinator’s Office. In thematic terms, the report supports efforts to analyse socio-economic dimensions of the COVID-19 in Türkiye. Moreover, the report sets the basis for further institutional engagement with Government and other relevant partners and stakeholders in the short to medium term with respect to agriculture and food sectors.
