    To date, the International community has focused on land reform and the liberalization of agriculture commodity markets as the basis for agriculture sector growth. Substantial progress has been made with these reforms In many countries of Europe and Central Asia Region (ECA); however, new challenges such as farm mechanization are emerging. Although the governments of low and middle-Income ECA countries have long stressed the need to raise Investment In farm mechanization, well-informed guidance on whether and how to address this issue is lacking. This study will assist both national governments and donor organizations to discern the constraints to farm mechanization and to decide how best to enhance its contribution to sustainable agriculture sector growth. This study was sponsored by the Chief Economist's Office in the Europe and Central Asia Region of the World Bank and supported by the Food and AgricultureOrganization ofthe United Nations.

    The FAO Subregional Office for Central Asia (SEC) in cooperation with the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center, the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas and the national counterparts in 2012 conducted a study on the status of Conservation Agriculture (CA) in Central Asia to develop policy recommendations for promotion of CA. This is a working document summarizing the outcomes of above study. The document was presented in the Regional workshop “Save and Gro w”: Promotion of Conservation Agriculture and Efficient Plant Protection Methods held on 4-6 December 2012 in Antalya, Turkey. The document is reviewed and finalized taking into account the contributions made by the Workshop participants in general, and in particular the three Working Groups that reviewed the current status of CA in the region and suggested possible ways forward for the promotion of CA.
