    Il est difficile de donner des informations précises sur le rôle des femmes dans le secteur agricole car le dernier recensement conduit au Liban remonte à 1970 et les données ne sont pas ventilées par sexe. Selon les projections de l'Organisation des Nations Unies, les femmes représentaient 40,7 pour cent de la main-d'oeuvre agricole en 1990. Toutefois, les femmes rurales sont devenues les principales protagonistes de la production agricole, de la plantation jusqu'à la commercialisation; cec i s'explique à la fois par l'important exode rural des hommes et par l'augmentation du nombre des veuves de guerre. Plus de 10 pour cent des ménages ruraux avaient une femme à leur tête en 1987. La majorité des femmes travaillent sur des exploitations familiales; mais on compte également des travailleuses saisonnières dont le nombre augmente, particulièrement au moment des récoltes, et dont le salaire, à la journée, ne dépasse pas la moitié de celui des hommes. Les femmes fournissent égaleme nt une main-d'oeuvre bon marché dans les industries de transformation des produits alimentaires.

    The Protocol of 8-9 July 1946 relative to the dissolution of the International Institute of Agriculture, transferred the functions and assets of the said Institute to FAO. Of these assets, the Library is unquestionably the most outstanding and is a lasting record of the Institute's work and its achievement in the field of agriculture. This catalogue will undoubtedly contribute towards a better knowledge of this international Library. This volume in its present form, represents the systematic card-index, by subject of the Brussels Decimal Classification, in French and English, and it's supplemented by the general alphabetical index of authors.
