Synopsis (short abstract) Cambodia's agricultural systems face escalating climate threats that endanger food security, rural livelihoods, and economic stability. This report presents strategic investment pathways developed during "Envisioning sustainable agricultural futures in Cambodia," a national workshop that applied innovative climate foresight methodology to transform climate challenges into actionable opportunities. The collaborative process produced four forward-looking initiatives addressing key vulnerabilities in Cambodia's agricultural landscape: smart rice technologies combining productivity improvements with emissions reduction, integrated climate-smart approaches for diversified farming systems, a comprehensive program developing location-specific agricultural technologies across six provinces, and coordinated interventions targeting greenhouse gas reduction in livestock and forestry sectors. Each proposal creates pathways for sustainable intensification, improved market access, and enhanced adaptive capacity while aligning with national climate commitments. The document illustrates how climate-smart agricultural investments can simultaneously address environmental sustainability, economic development, and social resilience objectives. Part of the Agriculture Sector Readiness project for enhanced climate finance in Southeast Asia, this workshop demonstrates effective approaches to designing transformative climate investments for Cambodia's agricultural sectors.

    Malaysia's agrifood systems face mounting challenges from climate change, requiring strategic transformation toward resilience while maintaining food security and economic stability. This report documents outcomes from the "Envisioning sustainable agricultural futures in Malaysia" national participatory workshop, which established a vision for the country to embrace sustainable, resilient, and climate-smart agriculture ensuring access to safe, nutritious, and affordable food for all. The workshop identified six key drivers of change affecting agricultural transformation: climate change, food prices, geopolitical instability, consumption patterns, population dynamics, and emerging uncertainties. Through collaborative stakeholder engagement involving multiple key institutions, four strategic project concepts were developed to address these challenges: an agroecological transformation initiative, utilization of genetic resources and emerging technologies to enhance rice farming resilience, biodiversity conservation for climate adaptation, and modernized climate information systems for agriculture. The document outlines how these initiatives align with Malaysia's climate commitments while providing practical implementation pathways. Part of the Agriculture Sector Readiness project for enhanced climate finance in Southeast Asia, this workshop demonstrates how targeted climate-smart agricultural investments can simultaneously address decarbonization goals, enhance food security, and build systemic resilience in national agrifood systems facing climate uncertainties.

    An agrifood transformation in the Lao People's Democratic Republic requires strategic interventions to build climate resilience while supporting rural livelihoods and national food security. This workshop report examines outcomes from a country consultation that mapped pathways toward an innovative, low-emission agricultural future capable of delivering sustainable growth for all. The collaborative assessment identified four critical forces shaping agricultural development: evolving climate patterns, shifting demographics and urban migration, regional economic interdependencies, and volatile commodity markets. Responding to these dynamics, stakeholders developed targeted investment proposals focusing on diversified cropping systems using indigenous varieties, strengthened domestic food production coupled with water security measures, community-based disaster risk management for vulnerable populations, and research-driven adaptation technologies. The proposed interventions emphasize local knowledge integration, scientific innovation, and community empowerment as foundations for sustainable agricultural development. Part of the Agriculture Sector Readiness project for enhanced climate finance in Southeast Asia, this workshop report illustrates how participatory planning processes can generate locally relevant solutions that align with broader climate finance mechanisms and regional cooperation frameworks.

    The Mekong River Delta, Viet Nam's primary rice production region, confronts intensifying climate challenges that threaten both agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability. This report documents outcomes from the national event "The transformation to a sustainable, high-quality, and low-emission rice sector in Viet Nam: Participatory workshop on climate actions and resilience" that examined strategic approaches for transforming rice cultivation systems toward high-value, low-emission practices aligned with national green growth objectives. The document outlines a comprehensive investment framework targeting sustainable water management and climate-smart rice production across one million hectares in the delta. The proposed initiative integrates four complementary elements: climate-resilient cultivation techniques, irrigation infrastructure modernization, strengthened market linkages for premium rice varieties, and knowledge transfer mechanisms to support adoption. By applying climate foresight methodology, stakeholders identified context-specific interventions that address projected changes in temperature patterns, water availability, and soil conditions.
