No results found. The FAO and JICA-funded project “Capacity Development of the Irrigation Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan” was designed to improve the capacity of the Irrigation Department to formulate, implement, monitor and evaluate agriculture irrigation development projects. The results of this Final Evaluation set a sound foundation for the management of the irrigation sector as it contributed to enhance Irrigation Department’s staff skills, knowledge and awareness, as well as to develop an Irrigation Database useful to support the Department’s decision-making process. The project also contributed to the policy dialogue setting the basis for a future institutional transformation and governance development. This could be achieved in the long-term through further dedicated interventions which could also support the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock in clarifying the roles and responsibilities for all water management-related institutions, as well as in developing and including a gender approach in its interventions.
