2025Una nueva publicación histórica de la FAO recorre 80 años dedicados a la alimentación y la agricultura, y el trabajo de la Organización para seguir orientando la transformación de los sistemas agroalimentarios en un mundo en cambio.A través de textos e imágenes, FAO a los 80 años: El objetivo de lograr mejores alimentos para todos presenta los hitos de la Organización a lo largo de su mandato, en diálogo con los acontecimientos mundiales y con la evolución general de la alimentación y la agricultura. El volumen se articula en cuatro partes, que reflejan la ampliación progresiva del alcance y la influencia de la FAO: Más (1945-1965), una parte centrada en la expansión de la producción agrícola tras la Segunda Guerra Mundial; Más profundo (1965-1985), en la que se aborda la aparición de las preocupaciones ambientales y de enfoques más adaptados; Más amplio (1985-2005), con una visión más global e integral, y Mejor (2005-2025), que destaca la innovación y la tecnología como motores esenciales de una mejor producción, una mejor nutrición, un mejor medio ambiente y una vida mejor, sin dejar a nadie atrás.Desde el papel pionero de la FAO con el Censo Mundial de Agricultura en 1950, pasando por la creación del Codex Alimentarius junto con la Organización Mundial de la Salud en 1963, hasta logros como la erradicación de la peste bovina en 2011 y la transformación profunda de los sistemas agroalimentarios guiada por las cuatro mejoras, se ha avanzado mucho. Aún queda camino por recorrer, y la FAO seguirá trabajando para lograrlo. -

El objetivo de este manual es guiar el nivel de organización de las actividades y capacitar a los facilitadores nacionales de innovación. Les ayudará a aumentar su comprensión de las diferentes etapas del proceso de coaching. Esta guía proporciona información sobre la metodología general para involucrar, apoyar y entrenar a los actores de organizaciones nacionales clave para que tengan la capacidad de innovar. Esta guía sirve como un recurso para los facilitadores, otras partes interesadas del proyecto y el equipo de gestión y otros expertos en desarrollo de capacidades para aprender cómo facilitar el DC para procesos de innovación en proyectos / iniciativas similares.

No results found.This report aims at inspiring strategic thinking and actions to transform agrifood systems towards a sustainable, resilient and inclusive future, by building on both previous reports in the same series as well as on a comprehensive corporate strategic foresight exercise that also nurtured FAO Strategic Framework 2022–31. It analyses major drivers of agrifood systems and explores how their trends could determine alternative futures of agrifood, socioeconomic and environmental systems. The fundamental message of this report is that it is still possible to push agrifood systems along a pattern of sustainability and resilience, if key “triggers” of transformation are properly activated. However, strategic policy options to activate them will have to “outsmart” vested interests, hidden agendas and conflicting objectives, and trade off short-term unsustainable achievements for longer-term sustainability, resilience and inclusivity. -

No results found.FAO’s Office of Innovation is working with partners on an FAO Chief Scientist initiative on Foresight on emerging agrifood technologies and innovations, aligned with the UN 2.0 process and the FOFA 2022: engaging all key actors of agricultural innovation systems in the foresight on emerging technologies and innovations to better prepare for alternative futures, feeding it into anticipatory action, and convening the global community for constructive dialogue and knowledge exchange. The aim is to support policymakers, investors and innovation actors in their approaches and decision-making. The study assesses a selection of technologies and innovations, which potentially could be of paramount importance in addressing agrifood challenges until 2050, as well as the most important trends and drivers that will influence the emergence of agrifood technologies and innovations and their triggers of change, including some regional aspects. The goal is also to build plausible future scenarios for the evolvement of the emerging technologies and innovations in the future with the time horizon of 2050 to inform future-oriented policymaking. The report is built with inputs from a multistakeholder Delphi survey and online workshops with experts. -

Transforming food systems for food security, improved nutrition and affordable healthy diets for all
2021In recent years, several major drivers have put the world off track to ending world hunger and malnutrition in all its forms by 2030. The challenges have grown with the COVID-19 pandemic and related containment measures. This report presents the first global assessment of food insecurity and malnutrition for 2020 and offers some indication of what hunger might look like by 2030 in a scenario further complicated by the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. It also includes new estimates of the cost and affordability of healthy diets, which provide an important link between the food security and nutrition indicators and the analysis of their trends. Altogether, the report highlights the need for a deeper reflection on how to better address the global food security and nutrition situation.To understand how hunger and malnutrition have reached these critical levels, this report draws on the analyses of the past four editions, which have produced a vast, evidence-based body of knowledge of the major drivers behind the recent changes in food security and nutrition. These drivers, which are increasing in frequency and intensity, include conflicts, climate variability and extremes, and economic slowdowns and downturns – all exacerbated by the underlying causes of poverty and very high and persistent levels of inequality. In addition, millions of people around the world suffer from food insecurity and different forms of malnutrition because they cannot afford the cost of healthy diets. From a synthesized understanding of this knowledge, updates and additional analyses are generated to create a holistic view of the combined effects of these drivers, both on each other and on food systems, and how they negatively affect food security and nutrition around the world.In turn, the evidence informs an in-depth look at how to move from silo solutions to integrated food systems solutions. In this regard, the report proposes transformative pathways that specifically address the challenges posed by the major drivers, also highlighting the types of policy and investment portfolios required to transform food systems for food security, improved nutrition, and affordable healthy diets for all. The report observes that, while the pandemic has caused major setbacks, there is much to be learned from the vulnerabilities and inequalities it has laid bare. If taken to heart, these new insights and wisdom can help get the world back on track towards the goal of ending hunger, food insecurity, and malnutrition in all its forms.
