The Commission on Small-Scale, Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture for Latin America and the Caribbean (COPPESAALC) promotes the responsible use of inland fishery resources, advises Member Nation Governments in fishery management measures and supports the development of aquaculture.The XIX Session of the Commission of Small-Scale, Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture of Latin America and the Caribbean, complies with the provisions of the Commission's statutes regarding the holding of regular biennial sessions. Its objectives are to report the measures adopted with respect to the agreements of the previous meeting; reflect collectively on the issues that concern the sustainability and contribution of fisheries and aquaculture to food security, the alleviation of rural poverty and the responsible and harmonious management of natural resources, in line with the needs of the member countries of the Commission, FAO regional priorities and the goals of the UN Sustainable Development Agenda.
