Synopsis (short abstract) Belarus has eliminated extreme poverty, and economic growth and a stable system of social benefits mean that the national poverty rate is low. However, gender and spatial disparities still exist, with the rural population at greater risk of income poverty. In terms of individual poverty levels, women fare better than men in both rural and urban areas.This County Gender Assessment (CGA), the first by FAO for Belarus, identifies gender disparities observed across various dimensions of agriculture and rural livelihoods in the country. The aim of the CGA is to provide a framework and background information as a starting point for more targeted gender analysis in the context of future FAO project design and programming.The CGA serves as a resource, not only for FAO’s cooperation with its national partners, but also for other diverse stakeholders working in the fields of agriculture and rural development in Belarus.

    The Country Gender Assessment (CGA) for Tajikistan offers a comprehensive analysis of gender equality in agriculture and rural development. It identifies key gender disparities, examines their root causes and impacts, and proposes actionable recommendations for gender-responsive policies. Despite being the main agricultural workforce and playing a critical role in food security, women’s contributions remain undervalued, under-recognized, and largely unpaid. With increasing male outmigration from rural areas, women’s roles on farms are expanding, underscoring the urgent need to invest in their empowerment to boost agricultural productivity, enhance food security, and drive sustainable rural development.

    This country gender assessment (CGA) for the Republic of Azerbaijan was undertaken as part of FAO and national commitments to promote gender equality while integrating a gender perspective into its operations. The resulting CGA report focuses on the intersections of gender, agriculture and rural development, and presents a snapshot of critical gender-based inequalities and their consequences for agricultural production and rural livelihoods in Azerbaijan. The assessment includes recommendations on enhancing agriculture and developing rural communities with a gender-sensitive perspective, taking into consideration gender roles and differences between women and men in access to productive resources, inputs and information. The process of developing and finalizing the CGA was overseen by the FAO Partnership and Liaison Office in Azerbaijan, within the “Improved food security and rural livelihoods through women’s economic empowerment” (WEP) project in Azerbaijan, funded through the FAO–Azerbaijan Partnership Programme (FAPP).

A picture of significant gender gaps in terms of the rural population’s access to educational and employment opportunities and social services is presented. The assessment includes recommendations on enhancing agriculture and developing rural communities with a gender-sensitive perspective, taking into consideration gender roles and differences between women and men in access to productive resources, inputs and information.
