    This document is the final version of the report of the Seventh Session of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission WECAFC held in Kingstown, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, from 8 to 14 November 1990. Major topics discussed during the session were: (a) socio-economic implications of fisheries management in the WECAFC region, (b) implementation of the strategy and programmes of action of FAO World Conference on Fisheries Management and Development, (c) fishery reso urces and fishery economic and planning issues in the WECAFC region, (d) management and development of fisheries in the Lesser Antilles region and (e) inspection and quality assurance of fishery products in the region. A list of the main recommendations of the Session is included in Appendix F.

    The Working Party on the Assessment of Marine Fishery Resources held its seventh session in Belize City, Belize, from 2 to 5 December 1997. The primary objective of this session was to contribute to a comprehensive assessment of the nature and status of fisheries in the region, with a view to assisting, through provision of information, the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission in its consideration of its future role and the prospects for enhancing cooperation in the region. The specific role of this Working Party was to consider the nature, distribution and status of the living marine resources of the region and, based on these, to advise the Commission on future roles that it should consider in order to realize effective, sustainable utilization and management of the resources. This task was completed and substantive recommendations, as detailed in this report, put forward for consideration by the Commission.
