No results found.In October 2014, the European Commission identified Sri Lanka as a non-cooperating third country, on the basis that it was not taking sufficient action to prevent, deter and eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing; and imposed a ban on the import of raw and processed fish to the European Union (EU). The ban was lifted in the first half of 2016, in recognition of the efforts made by the Government of Sri Lanka to address the challenges. However, the Government was still in need of technical assistance to review, consolidate and update the relevant legal framework; as well as training and other capacity development to the involved bodies and entities on fishing vessel inspection and the Monitoring, Control and Surveillance (MSC) of fishing vessels, in order to effectively combat IUU fishing. -

No results found.This Regional Plan of Action to Prevent, Deter and Eliminate Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated IUU Fishing (RPOA-IUU) has been developed by the joint Regional Working Group on IUU fishing (RWG-IUU) of WECAFC which includes two sub-regional organizations, the Caribbean Regional Fisheries Mechanism (CRFM) and the Organization for Fisheries and Aquaculture of Central America (OSPESCA), and was presented at the 17th Session of WECAFC in July 2019 for review, endorsement and implementation at national and regional levels. Le présent Plan d’action régional visant à prévenir, à contrecarrer et à éliminer la pêche illicite, non déclarée et non réglementée (PAR-INDNR) a été élaboré par le Groupe de travail régional conjoint sur la pêche INDNR (GTR-INDNR) de la COPACO qui comprend deux organisations sous-régionales, le Mécanisme régional des pêches des Caraïbes (CRFM) et l’Organisation du secteur des pêches et de l’aquaculture de l’isthme centraméricain (OSPESCA), et a été présenté à la dix-septième session de la COPACO en juillet 2019 pour examen, approbation et mise en œuvre aux niveaux national et régional. Este Plan de acción regional para prevenir, desalentar y eliminar la pesca ilegal, no declarada y no reglamentada (INDNR) (PAR-INDNR) fue elaborado por el Grupo de trabajo regional conjunto sobre pesca ilegal, no declarada y no reglamentada (GTR-INDNR) de la COPACO −que incluye dos organizaciones subregionales, el Mecanismo Regional de Pesca del Caribe (CRFM) y la Organización del Sector Pesquero y Acuícola del Istmo Centroamericano (OSPESCA) y se presentó en la 17.ª reunión de la COPACO, en julio de 2019, para examen, aprobación y aplicación nacional y regional. -

No results found.The Maldives NPOA-IUU identifies action points to reduce the negative social, economic, and environmental impacts of IUU fishing in the Maldives, and of Maldivian vessels operating outside of Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Based on a benchmarking of current performance/ issues against the contents of the IPOA-IUU (FAO 2001) and the related FAO Technical Guidelines on implementation of the IPOA-IUU (FAO 2002), the Maldives NPOA-IUU identifies action points to reduce the negative social, economic, and environmental impacts of IUU fishing in the Maldives, and of Maldivian vessels operating outside of Maldives’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). The NPOA-IUU represents action by the Maldives in contributing to The United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 14 Life Below Water, which has a Goal to: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources.
