Synopsis (short abstract) Zhagana Agriculture-Forest-Animal Husbandry Composite System is located in the three major landforms of the Tibetan Plateau, the Loess Plateau and the Chengdu basin and also lies in the convergence zone of the three climatic zone: tropical humid zone of Central and South China, the warm temperate zone of North China and the humid zone at the edge of the plateau, the type of vegetation is among the convergence of the Alphine steppe zone, the grassland of the northern temperate zone and the Quercu s of the southern warm temperate zone and it is a transitional zone of Tibetan-Chinese culture as well as agriculture and animal husbandry.

    County Committee and Government of Diebu pay high attention to the Zhanggana Agriculture-Forest-Animal Husbandry Composite System dynamic protection, adaptive management and sustainable development. Firstly, Agricultural Culture Heritage Protection and Development leading group, which is composed of Husbandry Bureau and Forestry Bureau, was set up and lead by County magistrate. In the mean time, Agricultural Culture Heritage Administration Office was founded as well.

    China has a very long history of construcing terraces that are famous for a wide scope of distribution and a large number of amount. China is a mountainous country where the area of mountains account for about two-thirds of the total area of the territory. Therefore, to make a living, ancient people who lived in the mountainous area created the pattern of terraced fields according to local conditions. For hundreds of years, the terraces built along the mountains have not only improved the local farming conditions but also increased the output of grains. Morever, they are beneficial to the ecology of the mountainous area and have made great contributions to the sustainable development of agriculture in China.
