Synopsis (short abstract) Throughout 2025, the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) continued to build momentum in advancing sustainable, people-centered bioenergy solutions. From spotlighting youth-led innovation in Africa to shaping global bioenergy governance at the GBEP Annual Meetings 2025, this past year has been one of significant achievements. At the 12th GBEP Bioenergy Week, held in Kampala, partners and stakeholders convened to champion a just and inclusive energy transition, with a strong focus on enhancing sustainable bioenergy in agrifood systems, clean cooking and youth engagement. The GBEP Youth Award 2025 highlighted African innovation, celebrating young people’s impactful research in the bioenergy field. Meanwhile, at the annual GBEP governance meetings, Partners provided strategic guidance on advancing bioeconomy and accelerating sustainable bioenergy. Now, with 93 members from governments and international organizations as Partners and Observers, the Partnership is expanding its influence and strengthening its role as a primary political and technical reference in the bioenergy landscape. Here are some key moments from 2025 and our plans for the upcoming year.

    The annual newsletter of the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) serves as a vital tool to showcase GBEP’s achievements and highlight partnerships built within the year. The newsletter fosters engagement among GBEP partners and observers by providing a yearly snapshot of its work and a summary of key activities, updates and lessons learned over the year. In addition to keeping stakeholders informed, the newsletter strengthens partnerships by promoting best practices, innovations and success stories to maintain momentum, build visibility and inspire ongoing commitment to its objectives. This year, the Global Bioenergy Partnership (GBEP) celebrated significant achievements in promoting sustainable bioenergy. With a growing network of 39 partners and 53 observers, GBEP advanced its role as a collaborative platform, driving technical discussions, developing innovative tools, and fostering global dialogue. Key milestones included the 11th GBEP Bioenergy Week in Rome, the release of a joint statement on sustainable bioenergy with FAO and international organizations and initiatives to inspire the next generation of bioenergy leaders. As GBEP looks ahead, its commitment to partnerships and sustainability remains central to its mission of integrating bioenergy into the broader bioeconomy and supporting modern energy access for all.
