No results found.This publication reports the proceedings of the twenty-fifth session of the Asia-Pacific Forestry Commission (APFC) held in Rotorua, New Zealand from 5 to 8 November 2013. In line with the "forests for prosperity"� theme of the session, the Commission reported on recent initiatives in several countries to expand value-added wood processing, enhance wood recovery from forest resources, tap new market opportunities, develop payments for ecosystem services and create more jobs in the forestry secto r. Main themes considered were: sources of forest financing; forest law enforcement and governance; promoting opportunities presented by the growing awareness of links between forests and climate change; and mechanisms for capacity building, awareness raising and information sharing, among others. An in-session seminar highlighted the issue of building resilience in forests, landscapes and forest-dependent communities. Main recommendations are included in the report. -

No results found.This publication presents the outcome of the twenty-fifth session of the Asia and Pacific Commission on Agricultural Statistics (APCAS) held in Vientiane, Lao People’s Democratic Republic from 18 to 21 February 2014. Attended by 87 participants, including 64 delegates from 19 APCAS member countries, the session assessed both the current status of food and agriculture statistics in member countries and progress made in implementation of the both the Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rur al Statistics in the region and the World Programme for the Census of Agriculture 2010. Other topics discussed were developments and analysis of food security statistics, archiving and dissemination of data from censuses and surveys, advances in economic statistics relating to the agricultural sector, and strengthening the collection and analysis of sex-disaggregated data on land ownership. -

No results found.An account of the meeting of the 15 member nations of the Commission in Manila, Philippines from 24 to 26 September 2001, the publication also includes a report of the preceding session in Dhaka, Bangladesh in November 2000. Asian farming households make up nearly one-third of the world's population and most of them are small farmers who combine cropping with livestock raising to spread their risks. The region is home to more than 1300 livestock species, accounting for about 30 percent of the wo rld's known breeds. APHCA was set up as an inter-governmental organization to promote livestock development in the region in ways that will increase food security and living standards of small farmers and rural communities. The document includes an account of APHCA's work during November 2000 to September 2001, details of proposed long-term activities and examples of recent epidemics of transboundary animal diseases, including a detailed report of outbreaks of animal diseases that also infected humans in Australia, Malaysia and Singapore between 1994 and 1999. There is also a section on progress in preparing the first report on The State of the World's Animal Genetic Resources.
