Temas Actuales y Emergentes para el Análisis Económico y la Investigación de Políticas
2001Esta publicación analiza cuatro situaciones actuales o que están surgiendo en el ámbito de los alimentos, la agricultura y el desarrollo rural. Estos análisis son obra de académicos reconocidos de este campo. La selección de los temas de análisis se hizo a partir de un estudio realizado por el personal de la FAO que trabaja en actividades de asistencia para las políticas en las principales regiones en desarrollo. De esta manera, la opción refleja la opinión de las personas encuestadas y, por ext ensión, la de los encargados de elaborar las políticas, respecto a las principales prioridades de investigación en materia de análisis económico de la agricultura, el desarrollo rural, la pobreza y la seguridad alimentaria. El informe presenta un capítulo con un resumen de los resultados del estudio mencionado. Los cuatro temas analizados a fondo son: i) las nuevas tenencias del pensamiento sobre el desarrollo y sus repercusiones en la agricultura y el desarrollo rural (por Simon Maxwell and Rob in Heber Percy); ii) las causas, características y estrategias de lucha contra la pobreza rural, con particular énfasis en América Latina (por Alberto Valdés y Johan A. Mistiaen); iii) instituciones, reforma y rendimiento agrícola (por Pranab Bardhan); y iv) cuestiones relacionadas con la emigración y la pobreza (por J. Edward Taylor). -

The 2023 edition of the Regional Overview of Food Security and Nutrition in Latin America and the Caribbean presents an update of the data and trends in food security and nutrition in recent years. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis and the conflict in Ukraine, as well as the economic slowdown, rising food inflation and income inequality have had an impact on regional figures. The most recent data shows that, between 2021 and 2022, progress was made in reducing hunger and food insecurity in Latin America and the Caribbean. However, the progress achieved is far from the targets established to meet SDG 2 of ending hunger. In addition, one in five people in the region cannot access a healthy diet and malnutrition in all its forms, including child stunting, micronutrient deficiencies and obesity continue to be a major challenge. -
