Synopsis (short abstract) In the Central African Republic, decades of armed conflict and violence, combined with climate shocks and widespread poverty, have resulted in a prolonged food crisis. One in three people in the country suffer from acute hunger, and this number is expected to increase by April 2025. These people urgently need support for agricultural production in order to feed themselves.

    The Central African Republic is one of the world’s ten poorest countries, with around 7 in 10 Central Africans living below the poverty line on less than USD 2.15 per day. Armed conflict, violence linked to transhumance and floods are the main shocks triggering population displacements and increasing vulnerabilities in the country. About half of the population is projected to be acutely food insecure in the coming months. Most live in rural areas, relying on agriculture for their food and income. They urgently need support to restore their production and improve their food security.

    The food security situation in the Central African Republic remains alarming with over 43 percent of the population currently in acute food insecurity. Of these, the majority live in rural areas and mainly rely on agriculture for their livelihoods. Every USD 1 invested in crop production can yield approximately USD 12 in food.
