No results found. While the Democratic Republic of the Congo has immense agricultural potential, its population of 90 million faces one of the most serious food and nutrition crises in the world. As over 75 percent of rural families rely on agriculture for their livelihoods, ensuring access to inputs and new technologies is needed in order to enhance agricultural production and food security. The FAO-China South-South Cooperation (SSC) project in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has provided technical assistance to enhance the agricultural production of nearly 2 260 households. Thirteen Chinese experts and technicians provided assistance on crop production, horticulture, livestock, aquaculture, agricultural machinery and plant protection. The project has helped households to meet their cereal and vegetable needs, increased farmers’ net incomes and taught local farmers new agricultural technologies. It has also promoted the use of the dry bed method and enhanced the efficiency of extension services. Given adequate resources, the technologies and varieties introduced through the FAO- China SSC Programme could be utilized on a much larger scale, reaching more beneficiaries throughout the country. -
