This is the essential guide to the Blue Food Forum, a global event on blue food value chains hosted by the government of the United Republic of Tanzania and the fish value chain development programme FISH4ACP in September 2024 in Tanzania. The Blue Food Forum put a spotlight on good practices in aquatic food value chain development to help shape national and global policies. They demonstrate the power of local solutions in triggering transformative change in global food systems. FISH4ACP is an initiative of the Organisation of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) aimed at making fisheries and aquaculture value chains in Africa, the Caribbean and the Pacific more sustainable. FISH4ACP is implemented by FAO and partners with funding from the European Union (EU) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

Blue transformation is a vision that aims to satisfy the world’s growing nutritional needs by providing the legal, policy and technical framework to sustain growth while conserving aquatic ecosystems. Technology and science are key to this process: artificial intelligence, the use of drones, and blockchain technologies are already determining a dramatic change in aquatic food value chains. But how can they be harnessed to achieve a transformation that is long-lasting and sustainable? In the context of the FAO Science and Innovation Forum, experts, resource partners and investors in the aquatic food sector will gather on the 20 of October 2022 at 11am CEST to discuss ideas, practices and solutions for leveraging science, technologies and innovation to make a genuine contribution to healthy nutrition, human well-being and poverty alleviation.
