Synopsis (short abstract) This document is the final report of the eleventh session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa (CIFA), which was held in Abuja, Nigeria, from 24 to 27 October 2000. The major topics discussed were: seminar on inland aquatic resources management and structural adjustment policies; follow-up actions to the tenth session of CIFA; recommendations of the subsidiary bodies of the Committee; emerging issues in inland capture fisheries and aquaculture of relevance to the CIFA region ; opportunities for the integration of irrigation and aquaculture; prospects for sustainable commercial aquaculture development in Africa; and the major topic for discussion at the twelfth session of the Committee. The summary of the main decisions and recommendations is given in Appendix E.

    This document is the final report of the Eighth Session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa, which was held in Cairo, Egypt, from 21 to 25 October 1990. Major topics discussed were: post-harvest fish technology, prospect and trends of African Inland Fisheries and Aquaculture towards the year 2000, intersessional activities, progress in the implementation of the Strategy and Programmes of Action of the FAO World Conference on Fisheries Management and Development, review of the FAO Field Programme 1988/89 in the region, collaboration with organizations concerned with inland fisheries development in Africa, and the main subject for discussion at future sessions of the Committee. The main decisions, directives and recommendations are listed in Appendix E.Le present document est le rapport final adopté par le Comité des pêches continentales pour l'Afrique à sa huitième session, tenue au Caire (Egypte) du 21 au 25 octobre 1990.     This document is the final report of the twelfth session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 2 to 5 December 2002. Major topics discussed were: reports of some intersessional activities; interactions between inland capture fisheries and aquaculture and their contribution to food security and poverty alleviation in sub-Saharan Africa; and promoting the implementation of the international codes of practice for the responsible use of alien and genetically modified aquatic species in African fisheries and aquaculture. A seminar was also held on the African experience in commercial aquaculture and community involvement in fisheries management.
