    The Special Fund for Emergency and Resilience Activities (SFERA) enables the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to take rapid and effective action in response to food and agricultural threats and emergencies. This annual report provides a brief description of the major operations initiated with SFERA funds for the 12-month period ending 31 December 2024. The report contains financial data for this period, as well as data since the Fund became operational.

    Through the Special Fund for Emergency and Resilience Activities (SFERA), the Government of Belgium contributed USD 350 000 to the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to help restore the livelihoods of farming households affected by the March 2025 earthquake in central Myanmar. With Belgium’s support, FAO will provide 1 360 households (6 800 people) with green gram seed, fertilizer and multipurpose assistance, along with training on good agricultural practices and nutrition. This document outlines the context of the intervention and the importance of the contribution.

    Through the Special Fund for Emergency and Resilience Activities (SFERA), the Government of Belgium contributed USD 120 000 to urgently restore and safeguard olive-based livelihoods in Harmota village.
