5. LECTURES ON FISH CULTURE

As requested by the Government, the expert delivered a series of lectures on fish culture, including the technique of induced fish breeding, for the benefit of: the staff of the Directorate of Fisheries and People's Pearl and Fisheries Board; post-graduate zoology students, B.Sc. Zoology (Honours) and Zoology major (Ichthyology) students of the Rangoon University. Some zoology lecturers and demonstrators were also in attendance. The following topics were included: reproduction in fishes; factors influencing spawning of carps; induced breeding of carps by injection of fish pituitary hormones; development of carp eggs; identification characters of eggs, fry and fingerlings; principles of fish production; nursery, rearing and stocking pond management; mixed fish-farming; pond fertilization; artificial feeding; fish diseases and parasites; exotic fishes, and related topics.
