139. The Commission was informed in the document APCAS/02/15, "Development Information for Sustainable Forest Management in Asia and the Pacific" that the growing demand for a range of goods and services by different stakeholders had increased the complexity of sustainable forest management, especially when the varying demands were conflicting. Some important changes relating to forestry included: (a) changes in institutional ownership; (b) shifts in priority and objectives, (c) shifts in sources of wood supply; and (d) processing and trade of forestry products. With these changes, forest management required new and more detailed data than in the past. Many countries, however, lack the capacity and resources to collect and process these data.
