Summary: Renewable energy technologies dissemination in Eastern and Southern Africa has been slow despite the efforts made over the last ten years. This paper addresses the development and role of renewable energy in Estern and Southern Africa with emphasis on bio-energy and wind energy. Experiences in the dissemination of renewable energy technologies in the region are reviewed and factors affecting the dissemination these technologies are briefly analyzed.
