EXPRESSION AND APPLICATION OF MRLS FOR FAT SOLUBLE PESTICIDES IN MEAT[17] (Agenda Item 9)

86. The Committee at its last session had decided to seek government comments on the proposal to express MRLs for fat soluble pesticides in meat using codes and commodity names of fat rather than those of meat accompanied with a suffix “(fat)”[18]. Questions were raised concerning the definition of the suffix “(fat)”; description and sampling of meat and fat; and portion of commodities to which the MRL applies. Two alternative approaches were proposed: (1) to include an empty entry of meat with a cross reference to the MRL for fat; or (2) to insert the word “carcass” in the Explanatory Note for “(fat)”.

87. Noting that at present there seemed to be no significant problems in trade regarding this issue, the Committee decided to maintain the current expression of MRLs for fat soluble pesticides in meat. The Committee also decided to discontinue this work with the understanding that if necessary it would reconsider the matter.
