The vessels itinerary was as follows:
Departure San Juan 20 FebruaryDuring 5 days of work in Nicaraguan waters the vessel steamed abt. 800 nm and 30 trawl stations were made. One day was spent working in the shallow Golfo de Fonseca (Honduras) with 6 fishing stations. During 5 days of work in El Salvador waters the distance steamed was abt. 830 nm and 35 fishing stations were worked.
Arrival Acajutla 3 March
The course tracks and the fishing stations for the whole area is shown in Figure 1. For the Nicaraguan shelf both the available information and the observations attained in the course of the survey indicated that the areas of greatest interest would be the inshore region and the part near the edge of the shelf and the slope itself down to abt 300 - 400 m of depth. The survey effort was accordingly concentrated in these parts with a more sparse coverage of the middle of the shelf.
The shallow depth of the Golfo de Fonseca limited the coverage to the central parts. The survey tactique for the waters of El Salvador was similar to that for Nicaragua, being based on the same considerations.
The weather condition were generally favourable, but with intermittent days of northeasterly force 6-7 off Nicaragua which affected some of the acoustic work and the squid testing offshore.
