A Division of Fisheries should be established under the Ministry of Agriculture for the effective implementation of programs in fishery development.
In order to staff the Division of Fisheries with qualified personnel, a number of candidates (the exact number to be determined on the basis of projects proposed to be implemented) with the necessary basic academic qualifications should be given adequate training abroad, and it should be ensured that on return their services are utilized for work in the fields of their specialization, with particular reference to training more personnel locally.
In the absence of qualified personnel in the country at present, it is considered necessary to obtain the assistance of an inland fishery biologist under a bilateral or United Nations assistance program to implement the recommendations above.
Investigations should be carried out to utilize the springs of the Azraq and Ein Fasha areas and the neighbouring swamp lands for fish culture.
Experiments in running-water fish culture, which the expert designed, should be carried out.
Experiments in trout culture should be continued to assess its technical and economic feasibility.
As it is not considered economically feasible to improve the experimental ponds in W. Yabis Fish Culture Station, it is recommended that a new fish culture experiment station be established at Deir Alla Agriculture Station as soon as qualified staff are available to conduct experimental work.
Critical experiments in carp and tilapia culture should be carried out at the proposed new experiment station, and on the basis of the results extension work should be organized.
A new fish farm should be established in W. Yabis at a suitable site for producing fry to stock, impoundments, private ponds and natural waters as necessary.
The possibilities of fish production in irrigation reservoirs proposed to be built should be studied.
