This document is the final report of the twelfth session of the Committee for Inland Fisheries of Africa, held in Yaoundé, Cameroon, from 2 to 5 December 2002. Major topics discussed were: reports of some intersessional activities; interactions between inland capture fisheries and aquaculture and their contribution to food security and poverty alleviation in sub-Saharan Africa; and promoting the implementation of the international codes of practice for the responsible use of alien and genetically modified aquatic species in African fisheries and aquaculture. A seminar was also held on the African experience in commercial aquaculture and community involvement in fisheries management.
