Programme prospectus
Aware of the need for improved
irrigation technology and efficient use of irrigation water and considering the
substantial lack of professional knowledge in the area of modern irrigation
technology and fertigation, the Agricultural Research Institute has had long
experience in irrigation/fertigation and organizes an advanced course in order
to share the know-how attained in Cyprus on this aspect with other countries
facing similar problems and challenges.
The objectives of the course are to:
- Offer scientific, technological and technical
background on efficient and effective water and fertilizer application.

Review present practices of micro-irrigation/fertigation.
- Provide
information for upgrading, implementation and operation of
micro-irrigation/fertigation systems.
- Provide modern management solutions
and innovative approaches through rational use of water and fertilizers to
increase yield, improve quality and safeguard sustainable production.

Provide a basis for the development of national guidelines and code of practices
for micro-irrigation/fertigation.
The candidates must have a Bachelor or a Master degree in
agriculture, irrigation, fertilization, plant nutrition or horticulture and at
least two years of post qualification experience in research or advisory
services in soil sciences.

Brief description of institution/organization
It is
a Department of the Ministry of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the
Environment and organised in eight Sections, i.e. Field Crops, Horticulture,
Plant Protection, Plant Pathology and Biotechnology, Soils and Water Use, Animal
Production, Statistics and Computers, and Agricultural Economics. It is a sole
institution engaged in agricultural research and depends almost exclusively on
Government funding.
The Institute undertakes applied and adaptive research
within the wider domain of plant and animal production. |
