Programme's main focus Enhancement of the
capabilities of water professionals.
Programme prospectus The responsible and
cost-effective use of water requires careful management of irrigation timing and
amounts to ensure the optimum return (in yield, quality or financial terms) per
unit of water utilized, whilst ensuring that adverse environmental impacts are
avoided. The course considers applications and case studies in agriculture,
horticulture, leisure and/or landscape irrigation. The course covers the
following subjects:
- Plant response to water and salinity -
Irrigation needs of selected plants, crops, turf grass and ornamentals -
Economics of irrigation - Determination of net irrigation requirements -
Real-time irrigation scheduling - Management of limited water supplies and
water conservation

Institute of Water and Environment is internationally renowned for its
multidisciplinary approach to sustaining the world's environment and fresh water
resources. It is committed to providing practical and cost-effective management
solutions to the ever-increasing problems associated with human
activities.
The Institute works closely with EU, DFID, Environment Agency,
MAFF, English Nature, Severn Trent Water, Unilever, BP, CDC, Rhône
Poulenc, RSPB, Water Aid, Oxfam and many other organizations worldwide. Its
unique team of economists, engineers, ecologists, agronomists, soil scientists,
land-use planners, water quality specialists, hydrologists and management
consultants work together to produce integrated and feasible solutions to meet
our clients' needs. The Institute offers three Masters courses and undertakes
research and consultancy in a wide range of topic areas relating to the
protection, enhancement and sustainable use of natural resources. |
