Programme prospectus
Upon completion of training,
participants will be able to identify the various parameters used to monitor
irrigation systems such as water delivery, crop produce, economic development,
etc.; monitor the operation of the system and procedures, water deliveries, non
water, inputs, crop, land use, etc.; understand the evaluation concepts; and
evaluate the performance of the system with respect to the objectives.
The curriculum includes: concepts of Water Resources
Consolidation Project (WRCP); concepts of monitoring irrigation systems;
evaluation concepts, process and procedures; monitoring and evaluation of
operational performance; monitoring weather parameters; baseline survey; details
procedure for performance evaluation; monitoring and evaluation of physical
system; monitoring and evaluation of land development, cropping and financial
achievements; evaluation of social and economical impacts; case studies of
monitoring and evaluation in Tamilnadu and in other States; monitoring and
evaluation of environmental aspects; development of performance indicators; and
management information system.

Brief description of
institution/organization
Tamilnadu Irrigation Management Training
Institute (IMTI) is one of 11 institutions set up in the country with financial
assistance from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID)
under the Water Resources Management and Training Project, which was established
in April 1984.
The objectives of the institute are to:
- Impart training to the in-service personnel
serving in the Department of Public Works, Agricultural Engineering and
Agriculture.
- Increase agricultural productivity, rural income, development
of the human resources and their efficiency in managing systems with farmers
participation.
- Conduct Action Research in a live irrigation system with
farmers participation.
- Motivate the farmers to form Water Users
Associations (WUAs).
IMTI is a society governed by a Governing Council comprising a
chairperson, vice chairperson, member secretary and other members. |
