Programme prospectus
The purpose of the training programme is expressed in four goals measured by a number of objectives: transfer the EWUP research process objective, introduce the on-farm conditions pertaining to irrigation and agriculture, improve the discipline expertise in terms of on-farm water management and develop an understanding and appreciation of interdisciplinary work.

The programme was established in 1978 during the Egypt Water Use and Management (EWUM). The programme depends on the concept of interdisciplinary research approach, at which many disciplines are working together, not as multiple but interdisciplinary, to handle problems and seek solutions that should reflect the interdisciplinary views of one or more disciplines. The training programme lasts seven weeks, five working days and seven hours per working day.

Brief description of institution/organization
The Water Management Research Institute (WMRI) is the part of the National Water Research Center (NWRC) that deals with research in the fields: crop water requirements, water distribution, water losses, on-farm irrigation systems and water quality.

The Institute owns 12 experimental research stations, which were selected to represent variations in climate, soil texture, crops and agricultural and irrigation practices throughout Egypt. In addition to the above experimental stations, research programmes are carried out on fields owned and managed by individual farmers.

The Institute has six laboratory sites that are equipped to carry out analyses of water, soil and crop samples. The institute can also arrange courses in various areas and for different target groups.
