Programme prospectus
This five-day refresher course is for Canal Inspectors working in the Irrigation Department.

The course syllabus covers: responsibilities and duties of canal inspectors; meteorological instruments, crop water requirement, irrigation acts; methods of water distributions, agriculture extension; usefulness and current status; type of soils, water holding capacity, etc; methods of flow measurement and instruments of measures; methods of irrigation (border, basin, furrow, etc.); participation of farmers in irrigation; preparing irrigation schedules, preparation of demand schedule; preparation of recovery statement and rules of irrigation recovery; preparatipn of AIDC statements; information about various farm statements; and checking of irrigation and controlling unauthorized irrigation.

Brief description of institution/organization
The Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI, Aurangabad) is a premier in-service training institute in irrigation and water management. The Institute was established as an autonomous registered society and a first institute in India by the Irrigation Department, Government of Maharashtra with the financial support of the World Bank and USAID.

The Institute provides in-service training in irrigation water management to the officers of the Irrigation and Agriculture Department, Government of Maharashtra and to the farmers in the state.

The Institute also conducts national and international programmes in irrigation water management sponsored by different donor agencies. Other activities include the Action Research Programme and Consultancy Services in the field of irrigation water management to the different stakeholders.
