Enhancement of the capabilities of water professionals.

Programme prospectus
This short course is no longer running on a regular basis but can be rescheduled upon the request of a client. The course includes: project planning concepts, irrigation project planning considerations, feasibility study and report writing, hydrological data analysis, soil-water-plant relationship, crop and project water requirements, selection and design of cropping patterns, irrigation scheduling, design of small dams, diversion weirs, irrigation canal and control structures, design of pumping irrigation system, project works, case studies and technical visits.

On completion of the programme, the participants should be able to plan for a small-scale irrigation project taking the soil, crop, available water and economic feasibility of the selected project into consideration. They will also be able to carry out the preliminary design of the headwork and water distribution system of the project.

Brief description of institution/organization
The Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) is an autonomous, international post-graduate institute based in Bangkok, Thailand. Established in 1959, AIT responds to the needs of the Asia-Pacific region through higher education, training and research.

AIT Extension adds an exciting new dimension to AIT's work. Bringing together the Institute's highly-regarded academic and outreach centres, Extension identifies and responds to regional opportunities for continuing education, training and consultancy and thus helps realize AIT's mission to develop highly qualified and committed professionals who will play a leading role in the sustainable development of the region.
